long time no blog

Yesterday, we visited the Boy Scouts of America museum in Irving, TX. It was a wonderful museum with paintings by Norman Rockwall, as well as neat exhibits that the boys loved. We loved even more that the museum is free on Mondays-- so our hour was well spent!

museums- for free!

I've heard wonderful things about the new children's museum in Fort Worth. Alas, it is a little more than we want to spend right now.

A while ago, I heard that Bank of America had a partnership with museums, and when I last checked, all that was on there was the DMA (which doesn't have too much stuff we're interested in at this point). I decided to look again, and was so excited to see that both the children's museums in Dallas AND Ft. Worth are now on the list! So, the first Friday and Saturday of every month, BoA customers get in free, just by showing their bank card. We already have October 2 marked on our calendar =).

verizon

I've been trying to think of other things to cut money wise, so this week I decided to call Verizon and see what they could do for me (we verizon for internet and home phone- I know we could cut the home phone, but I just like having it.)

So, in the end, we were able to save $20 a month for the next 12 months-- our internet is now 19.99 (plus fees), and our home phone is around $25--- hooray! If we do have more money someday, I told Brett I still want to be a good steward and find deals-- it makes me sick to think about the money we spent/wasted during our DINK days. Oh well!

great eats

Last Thursday, my friend Amanda, and I, met for dinner, and we tried a new restaurant-- Cretia's. This a nice/trendy restaurant in uptown with a great bakery as well. The best part is that I bought a $25 off coupon from restaurant.com for $2! The stipulations were that we had to buy two entrees to use the coupon (we also got 2 cookies!) So, we both got out of there for less than $5 for a really good meal!

(FYI- if you go to restaurant.com, be careful of what you have to buy at the restaurant before you buy the coupon. Normally, coupons are $10 a piece, but sometimes they have sales for 80% off, which is what I got.)

swiffer alternative

We really like our swiffer mop, but I really, really don't like the cost of refills ($8 for 24? that's ridiculous!) So, I tried a new idea..... we have a ton of burp cloths (more than we'll ever need, even if we have another baby), so I took a couple of burp cloths that are really cloth diapers, cut them in half, and made that the pad on the swiffer.
Then, I made a solution of water, a little dish soap, and vinegar, and dipped the pad in it. It worked great! It wasn't quite as smooth as the swiffer, but it will work just fine and our floors looked great afterwards. (and it cost almost nothing!)
oh-- my friend Amanda said the solution should work just as well with just water and vinegar, and she puts a little lemon oil to make it smell better =)

really cute dress!

My mom and I were walking in the mall the other day (because it's sooooo hot outside), and we went into the Dillards outlet store, mostly because she hadn't seen it before. I got this dress for over 80% off!!!! The picture doesn't do it justice, but I just love this dress =).

haircuts

Where we live, there is a supercuts training center (thanks Rashel, for the tip!)-- so last week, we got Matthew's (my 3 year old) haircut for free (I did tip a dollar). The great thing was that they had a trainer in there to fix any issues the hairstylist had. I have yet to try it myself-- but I may get brave one of these days.
